investigation into an unusual case of vandalism. it involved a building on twin peaks in san francisco. and tara moriarty says it had the potential to cripple much of san francisco's emergency communications system. tara. >> reporter: this radio hub is in a very public place. anyone can walk, bike, and drive up here. it illustrates the point it has vulnerable. why would someone want to break into the perimeter. it happened yesterday morning around 9:00 when city workers discovered that vandals had cut a hole into a chain link fence and slipped inside. they didn't make it into the building but they were able to cut exposed cables possibly connecting air conditioning. >> nothing was stolen. none of the wiring was pulled out and stolen. right now it's being treated as a vandalism. >> reporter: san francisco police and fire as well as emergency services rely on radio transmissions from twin peaks. none were interrupted but the fbi was notified because this communications facility is so crucial. right now officials are using surveillance footage to see if it provides clues to who did this. >>> n
